Many Colorado companies, including our own, have received solicitations from Corporate Controllers Unit with regard to the filing of their periodic reports. The solicitation (which looks official) offers to assist the owners of Colorado legal entities with filing their annual updates with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office for an annual fee of $225. The solicitations are not coming directly from the Colorado Secretary of State or any other Colorado governmental agency, but rather an independent company.
Please be aware that the annual Colorado filing requirements have not changed. Many of our clients have complied with their reporting obligation (on their own, or through their CPA or attorney) by submitting the required updates online, directly through the official website of the Colorado Secretary of State. The state of Colorado charges a small fee, typically $10, when reports are timely filed through their website. Businesses are often able to submit the reports themselves, or in consultation with their CPA or attorney.
We believe that filing the required updates directly through the Colorado Secretary of State’s website is the most reliable and cost-effective approach, and we would recommend that all of our clients consider this option.
